Defense Industry Veteran Katharina McFarland Joins Exyn Technologies Board of Directors
Former Assistant Secretary of Defence for Acquisitions, Katharina (Katrina) McFarland brings unique expertise to Exyn Board to usher advanced autonomous robotics to new markets.
Philadelphia — August 11, 2020 — Exyn Technologies (https://www.exyn.com), a pioneer in autonomous aerial robotics, today announced the addition of a board member, Katharina (Katrina) McFarland. With a robust background in engineering and professional experience in defense, McFarland is poised to help Exyn scale growth in the public and private sector.
With over 30 years of government service, McFarland, the former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and former Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics & Technology), and an accredited Materials, Mechanical, Civil and Electronics Engineer, is widely recognized as a leading expert on government procurement. McFarland is currently a Director on the SAIC Board, which she joined in 2019, and President of Blue Oryx Inc.
“In my roles as Engineer, Program Executive, and Acquisition Leadership, I’ve often talked about the importance of small business in our economic and innovative futures,” commented McFarland on joining Exyn’s Board of Directors. “Small innovative businesses help bring improvements in technology areas to market. Exyn is a great example of this, and I hope to help grow their unique technologies and expand their use in the public and private sector.”
Exyn’s autonomous aerial robot systems are most commonly used for industrial applications such as mining, construction, nuclear power, and military surveillance/reconnaissance. Exyn AI enables the aerial robots to complete missions and collect data without additional human input, something McFarland is also interested in.
“We are all more and more reliant on artificial intelligence helping us with improved and accurate data for our decision making due to the world’s growing complexity,” she added. “Exyn is deeply engaged in preserving our country’s values as it creates and executes software coding and processing and is a leader in responsible application and use of artificial intelligence in autonomous operations aligned with our Nation’s high ethical standards. This responsible use is what I wish to be part of, and help lead by example.”
In 2019, Exyn announced $16 million in Series A funding led by Centricus, with other investors including Yamaha Motors Ventures, In-Q-Tel, Corecam Family Office, Red and Blue Ventures, and IP Group, Inc. This financing is helping Exyn to propel its commercial growth plans, accelerate the development of its technology, and create innovative and practical offerings for customers.
